Getting around Ivory Coast: gbaka, woro-woro, taxis and boats.

There is no tourist transport network here — no hop-on bus, no organised shuttle between sights. What exists is what Ivorians use, and it works well once you understand it: shared taxis, minibuses, lagoon boats and intercity coaches. This page explains each of them, what they cost, and where a private vehicle is simply the better answer.

Colours tell you what you are looking at
In Abidjan, orange-red taxis are metered city taxis that take you wherever you ask. Coloured taxis — the colour varies by commune — are woro-woro, shared and running fixed routes within that district. White minibuses are gbaka, running set lines with a conductor hanging out of the door calling the destination. Knowing which is which saves a great deal of confusion.
