Football in Ivory Coast: African champions at home.

Football is not a leisure topic here, it is the first subject of conversation — in the workshop, in the office, in the maquis. In 2024 the country won the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, after a tournament run that everyone can still recite. This page explains why that matters so much, who the names are, where the stadiums are, and how to see a match yourself.

A tournament nobody here forgets
At the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations the host nation very nearly went out in the group stage, changed coach mid-tournament, and still won the title — beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final in Abidjan on 11 February 2024. It was the third title after 1992 and 2015, and the first at home. Anyone who was here still talks about it.

To the stadium without the parking.

Traffic around the grounds is heavy on match days. With a driver you are dropped off and collected, however late it finishes.
